I remember seeing the Centaur in “A Time to Stand” as a kid, and was like that is REALLY cool design, even if it was hard to try and make it out. Saw plans of it then some time later, in the old Star Trek Fact Files magazine. They used to do fairly standard blueprints, but they’d just started to do full CGI models then for schematics. It was beautiful to see a 12 or 13 year old nerdy kid. Like building a Miranda-class out of Excelsior parts.
I know you can use the class in STO, but here we are now and she’s about to star in her own game. I just really love that Dramatic Labs took the time to use a starship class from canon, and resist the temptation to make their own Starfleet design. Actually, was there ever talk about designing their own brand new class, or using another class from canon for the Resolute?

I love the design as well, and now you’re making me want to dig out my out Fact Files again as well

A fellow carbon based unit of culture, I see!

As far as I can remember, Dan always had a pin in the Centaur class.
We did a lot of concept work fleshing out our version of the ship. You can see from the comic book covers and trailers the difference between the Resolute’s classic Centaur design and our game’s refit design.
As we began designing the interior, we found that the canon specs didn’t leave a lot of room inside for some of the spaces we needed, so we took some interesting liberties. Ultimately, we fit it all in. All the spaces you visit in the ship fit within the hull and actually exist in their spatially correct places. Deck plan LCARs were all traced from planning models. Even the warp core was designed to reinforce the layout of the ship and nacelles!
I think we have two rooms for cut-aways that are set redresses and are unaccounted for in the initial design. I’ll figure out where they actually belong at some point just to be complete
Welcome aboard!

NGL, I think I just peed a little reading your reply! The likes of Rick Sternbach and Doug Drexler would be very proud reading how much care you and your team have put into the Centaur design!

@USSEnterprise if by “of culture” you mean “older than I realise”, then yes that’s me
@jdstrawesome Great to hear you put as much detail and forethought into the design as possible, it always helps make things feel a lot more authentic and immersive.

Ah yes. I also remember the old Star Trek Fact Files. I had many binders full of those back in the day.
@jdstrawesome Loving the level of detail of thought you’ve obviously put into designing the ship. Can’t wait to explore it.

Was it like sixteen binders that ended up holding the Fact Files?

16 sounds about right to me.
Alot more than I was expecting when it first started, that’s for sure

I remember there was a lot of binders. I cannot remember what happened to mine but I miss them and the ship schematics. I wanted to buy them again but no one is willing to ship… besides I dont have the room

I know Eaglemoss reprinted a lot of the starship stuff in their “Designing Starships” and “handbook” hardbacks, but I don’t know how readily available they are now since the company went bust last summer. Seen a lot of people down through the years who had to give away their Fact Files binders, but to quote Charlton Heston, they can take mine from my cold dead hands!

Someone on Twitter posted a link to their Fact Files the other day, as well as to some other publications they had kept. Enjoy!

I just clicked on some random section on a whim, and my God the memories that came flooding back! I see that font used on things from time to time and go to myself “that’s the Fact Files font!”

We posted this on Twitter the other day, but here’s a neat writeup from Dan on the choice to use a Centaur:
“While we explored a number of options for the U.S.S. Resolute, the Centaur-class was always an early favorite. Because it was built for the Dominion War from Excelsior- and Miranda-class parts, it was the “best of both worlds” of old and new. It would be current to the 2380 setting of the game, but the Centaur-class also let us credibly bring some of the design elements of the TOS-era movies to the game without making the Resolute look like some kind of relic. We also liked that it came with that built-in Dominion War backstory, and we added some of our own history to the Resolute as well – a disaster six months prior to the game that has had a lasting impact on the crew. So if you’ve noticed that the Resolute has a deflector dish and engineering hull not normally found on the Centaur-class, you can read about how those changes came about in the prequel comic miniseries from IDW Publishing! All five issues are available now: https://www.idwpublishing.com/series/2025”

Thanks for that! I was rewatching the IGN gameplay from last year a few nights ago, and was struck how much the centre of the bridge (command chairs and helm) kinda reminded me of the “swing set” bridges we used to see on TNG for Ships of the Week. I REALLY love the little corridor outside the bridge to Solano’s ready room and (presumably) the conference lounge. Just really feels like it could’ve been a real life set from the late 90s built for one of the shows or a TNG film. Can’t wait to see more of her!

I like to think that if Eaglemoss hadn’t gone under they’d have made a Resolute model just like they made the Titan and Aventine from the novels, but with that no longer a possibility, I found this going cheap online (ok, I went looking
) and couldn’t resist…

I have that one!
I’ve all the basic issues (180 of them), and I FINALLY got the last Special I missed years ago last week when Master Replicas (basically Eaglemoss 2.0) put the last few up for sale. They were gone in under two mins, but I finally got me an Earth Spacedock. I only ever got three of the DSC ships and none of the PIC ones. Got the bulk of the bonus issues too, think all I missed was the Andrew Probert Enterprise-C concept…
Anyway, that Centaur will look lovely next to your TV as you play the game next week!

I’ve been picky and only got the hero ships, plus one one or two others which feature in the novels, but figured I’d need this/it gave me an excuse to buy another one

I forgot to mention it, but I don’t know will we ever see a model of the Resolute from the game though. I know Eaglemoss did STO ships, but they ended after twenty due to lack of interest. Former employees trying to get the line restarted have said those wild halcyon days of making any ship they wanted to is now over, so that base model of the Centaur is probably as close as you can get (unless you can find someone to 3D print a Resolute for you).

Tbh I presumed the STO range just folded when Eaglemoss did, I didn’t realise they cancelled it earlier. I remember especially when the Aventine came out as a bonus that it was a more niche ship so I don’t think they made as many and some people were left dissappointed.
But yeah, as things stand now, the Centaur’s the closest I’m gonna get. Having something 3D printed is just gonna stand out from my actual Eaglemoss models and ruin the uniformity
